The Rampathon is an Annual HBA event in partnership with St. Vincent De Paul’s. Each year we work with St. Vincent De Paul’s to identify deserving families in need of a ramp. Then our committee works to organize builders to build those ramps for the families. This event is just one of the many ways our members like to contribute back to the community. It is sponsored by Liberty Bank with a total of $10,000 in sponsorship money. Several HBA member suppliers have given discounts on supplies, provided materials at cost and even donated materials for the event.
Rampathon is organized and put on by a volunteer committee, headed up this year by Mac MacDonald of Built By MAC. We have three builder members working with Mac to build these ramps. While we cannot release names of the recipients, I can tell you that one of the recipients will be receiving her ramp on her birthday!
Mac has been working to encourage builders across the country to take up this project and start their own rampathon events. Here in Oregon, The Central Oregon Home Builders Association has announced they will do their first annual rampathon this year.
We are very excited this year to have Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy participating in the event.
This year’s rampathon took place on Saturday June 20th with three families receiving ramps. 2 families are located in Springfield and one is located in Eugene.
Shallum Bivens of Nordic Homes and Construction, LLC built one of the ramps. This project posed a few challenges as the homeowner had started a concrete ramp which needed to be removed before construction of the ramp began.
Lamoine Savage of Savage Construction took on another of the ramp projects. He even got some help from our own Ed McMahon in putting things together! Eugene's mayor, Kitty Piercy, even dropped by the jobsite to say hi!
John Moore of DC Fine Homes built the final ramp for our '09 Ramp-a-thon.
After putting in a very full day, he had to pull off to finish work on their '09 Tour of Homes house.
Mac of Built By MAC finished off that ramp and got a picture of a very thankful recipient!
